History:

  • Architect Dalton & Eveleigh - Edwardian Commercial

  • Originally a Steel-And-Masonry Structure Pilkington House was Built in 1910-1911 by Pilkington Brother Glass works, At the time the largest glass manufacturer in the world. Pilkington glass was manufactured in England & shipped via Steamship around the tip of South America to Vancouver, then unloaded in this warehouse. This was the distribution centre for all of North America. In the 1950s the company stopped selling glass in Canada under the Pilkington name. The building continued to serve as a warehouse until 1990, when it was converted to office & residential condominium units (Lofts) " by Rositch Hemphill Architects (RHA) who are the commercial residents of building" - Gastown Business Improvement Society

  • One of the few buildings in Vancouver that was constructed with a steel frame: steel columns (encased in concrete) and steel beams.

  • The newly constructed building at 120 Powell was an addition to the buildings that Pilkington Glass were using immediately adjacent to the west, and which are now occupied by Bryan Adams’s studio. The Loft's west windows overlook the open green area hidden by facade brick walls on North & south sides and a is a part of The Warehouse Studios, one of the top Recording studios in the world owned & fully restored by Vancouver's Grammy Award winning artist Bryan Adams.

  • Received a City of Vancouver Heritage Award for outstanding restoration of a historic building.

  • When redeveloped from warehouse to residential in 1990/1991 asked and received correspondence from Sir Anthony Pilkington about the construction and operation and consequently agreed to naming the building Pilkington House.

  • In the living room area you will see a brick infill portion which was originally a passage to the adjacent building.
